PROTECT THE VULNERABLE: DREAM ACT AND CHIP NOW

#DreamActNow

#StopTrumpTaxScam

The GOP spent 2017 trying to repeal Obamacare and pass the tax bill. In doing so Republicans let:
CHIP fund lapse – endangering the lives of 9 million kids

DACA recipients go unprotected – leaving 700,000 of young people in danger of deportation  https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/government-shutdown-dreamers_us_5a2989ece4b0b185e53a3098
disaster relief go underfunded by $180 billion – leaving Puerto Rico without power, clean water or healthcare

Taking care of children and disaster victims is an easy bipartisan win. More importantly, it is the humane and moral thing to do.

Despite this, the GOP has focused on a tax bill that will cut corporate taxes more than middle class taxes and create an almost $1.5 trillion debt. Republicans have enough money for themselves and their donors but not for those in need.

Congress has FOUR DAYS to pass a continuing resolution to keep government open. This is an opportunity for Dems to STAND UP and demand that it contain a clean DREAM act, permanent CHIP funding and adequate disaster relief.

Doing so risks a government shutdown, but failing these kids and disaster victims is not an option. They are relying on their government to save them. It is up to Democrats to . . .

Make it happen!

**ACTION 1: Call our Senators and Congressman Walden**
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senator Merkley:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I want to thank the Senator for voting “no” on the last continuing budget resolution. Today I am asking that he keep doing all he can to stop the Trump Tax Bill and that he promises me to only vote “yes” on the next continuing resolution if it has a Clean DREAM Act, permanent CHIP funding and adequate disaster relief. It is our moral responsibility to provide for all Americans. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senator Wyden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I was surprised Senator Wyden voted “yes” on the last continuing budget resolution when it didn’t include a Clean DREAM Act or CHIP funding. Today I am asking that the Senator to keep doing all he can to stop the Trump Tax Bill and to promise me that he will only vote “yes” on the next continuing resolution if contains a Clean DREAM Act, permanent CHIP funding and adequate disaster relief. It is our moral responsibility to provide for all Americans. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Congressman Walden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. This week Congressman Walden will be voting on the tax bill and a continuing resolution. I am asking him to put country ahead of party and think about his constituents, not his donors when he takes these votes. Vote “no” on the tax bill and only vote “yes” on the next continuing resolution if contains a Clean DREAM Act, permanent CHIP funding and adequate disaster relief. It is our moral responsibility to provide for all Americans. Thank you.”
