Until the 2020 Election

IS TRUMP’S IMPEACHMENT GOING TOO FAST?

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to lean toward an impeachment inquiry focused primarily on Ukraine and the strong-arm tactics Trump used to push Ukraine’s president to find dirt on Joe Biden and his son.

The strategy’s advantage is that it is easy to communicate, Trump himself has already provided the proof, and it can be done quickly, with a vote perhaps by Thanksgiving, and would not bleed into the 2020 election season.

Yet many Democrats want Trump to be held accountable for his other high crimes and misdemeanors. In fact, more than half the Democratic caucus in the House had supported impeachment before the Ukraine story broke.

Trump’s own strategy is one of defiance. Since he has no legal or constitutional leveragehe is recasting the impeachment process as illegitimate and the House Democrats as biased against him.

Trump’s strategy may energize his base enough to carry him through the election. Trump is already spending millions on ads with this message.

But his monumental betrayal of the Kurds demonstrates the urgency of impeachment.  And each day seems to expose new crimes and misdemeanors.

Yes, speed is vital but Trump must be held accountable for his egregious acts.

Please let your Members of Congress know your position.

Let Greg Walden know he is failing to represent us, his constituents, and that he is failing to uphold his oath of office.

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY AND WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because . . .

. . . I agree with you that Trump deserves impeachment but I’m concerned about the focus largely on Ukraine. I believe Trump’s crimes are greater than just Ukraine. I ask that you speak out for an impeachment indictment that holds him accountable, broadly, for his immoral and criminal acts.

Thank you.

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling . . .

. . . because Greg Walden’s continued defiance of the will of our district for Trump’s impeachment leaves me flabbergasted. His position of placing party over the good of the country is despicable and it demonstrates how complicit he has become. I am frustrated, shocked and extremely disappointed by his lack of integrity.

Through Greg’s actions and inactions — the silence is deafeninghe continues to signal that he fully supports Trump, regardless of how much damage Trump is doing to our democracy and to world stability. Know that we are still here, we will hold him accountable, we are working to flip his seat BLUE — #2020IsNow!

Thank you.”
