CALL TO ACTION #877: Federal Aid for Those Hardest Hit by CV-19, ORD2 Indivisible Events Update (March 12, 2020)

Call To Action: National

236
Days

Until the November 3rd Election

FEDERAL AID FOR THOSE HARDEST HIT BY CV-19

The coronavirus outbreak has the potential to wipe our more people financially than it will infect. Today 40% of Americans don’t have enough savings to cover a $400 emergency. Millions more are one paycheck away from catastrophe. Knowing these stark facts, House Democrats are voting today on an aid plan that will provide working people and small businesses:

  • paid sick leave
  • expanded unemployment benefits
  • rental, federal mortgage and student loan payment assistance
  • expanded nutrition assistance programs
  • reimbursement for all health costs not covered by health plans
  • free coronavirus testing
  • protections against price gouging for essentials

Their proposal also aids small businesses, child-care centers, schools, and public transit; makes new protective equipment rules for front-line workers and increases the capacity to treat coronavirus patients.

Much must be done in the coming months to soften the financial blow from this pandemic. Much of it should be done by the government, whose job it is to respond to a natural catastrophe. The market place isn’t going to make sure that everyone is safe or made whole.

Congress needs to do its job and make the government work for all people in the country.

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

Thank you.”
