DEMAND IMMEDIATE ACTION TO PROTECT OUR VOTING RIGHTS
Georgia’s botched primary election—marred by long lines in minority and poor areas, technical difficulties with faulty voting machines, voter confusion, precinct closures, poll worker shortages, and undelivered absentee ballots—was caused by Georgia’s structurally racist voting system. This unacceptable miscarriage of voting justice followed years of deliberate voter suppression by GOP lawmakers (and Brian Kemp as Georgia Secretary of State and now Governor). Chief Justice John Robert’s U.S. Supreme Court, which gutted Voting Rights Act in 2013, has also thrown fuel on the voter suppression fire. COVID-19 just gives the GOP additional opportunities to limit ballot access.
Georgia’s primary was a test drive for the GOP plan to suppress the vote in November. The RNC has $20 million allocated to challenge voting-rights lawsuits and hire 50,000 volunteers in 15 key states to intimidate voters at the polls. Voting by mail would subvert these efforts.
We cannot let the GOP steal the 2020 election through voter intimidation and suppression. Everyone, regardless of where they live or the color of their skin, has the right to receive their ballot at home; voting by mail would protect them from both voter suppression and COVID-19.
The time for planning November’s election is now. Congress must provide the funds states need to prepare, plan and increase security ahead of the election, and pass legislation that expands voting options while maintaining healthy and safe polling places.

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.
“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”
