***Today’s Call To Action***

Resist. Persist. Insist.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris exude compassion, thoughtfulness, knowledge, experience, and calm. They speak of unifying the country, of pandemic mitigation and prevention, of economic recovery, of social and environmental healing.

In contrast, there’s Trump. Just last week he:

  • Mocked science and those who respect experts’ recommendations

  • Held super-spreader events

  • Failed to denounce white supremacist violence, calling on them to “monitor” polling places

  • Was caught abusing our tax system, possibly fraudulently, and paying virtually no taxes

  • Was caught with debt that risks national security

  • Was accused of “aiding and abetting” Putin by former National Security Advisor H. R. McMaster

  • Fell ill from COVID-19 — even though he had the power to contain the pandemic and prevent most of the 210,000 deaths and 7.5 million diagnoses that disproportionately impact BIPOC communities

  • Pushed a Supreme Court Nominee who will take away our healthcare in a pandemic

In other word, Donald Trump, and the GOP that enables him, are enemies of The People.

We call on Congress to protect us and American democracy. Congress must pass COVID relief, refuse to fill the SCOTUS vacancy until after the inauguration, and block Trump and his GOP’s schemes to disrupt our election and create chaos.

Call Congress NOW!

Make your voting plan NOW!

Get Out The BLUE Vote NOW!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY and WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I appreciate all the Senator does to protect the People and American democracy. I urge him as a progressive leader to do everything possible to:

  • Protect our election — now and between election day and the inauguration
  • Ensure the press and his constituents know how he is protecting our vote and its outcome
  • Block all attempts to fill the SCOTUS vacancy until after the inauguration
  • Continue to pressure his colleagues to pass a COVID-19 rescue package
  • Investigate the national security risk of Trump’s debt
  • Censure Trump for refusing to commit to a peaceful transition and for calling on white supremacist vigilantes to help him retain power.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

Trump’s illness doesn’t absolve him of responsibility for his actions. I insist that Greg Walden put The People and the US Constitution before his party and:

  • Protect our election — now and between election day and the inauguration
  • Vote to censure Trump for refusing to commit to a peaceful transition and for calling on white supremacist vigilantes to help him retain power
  • Investigate the national security risk of Trump’s debt.

Silence is complicity.

Thank you.”

**ACTION THREE: BE AN ACTIVIST**

October 7, 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Ongoing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
#MyORHealth  Support is available for Oregon’s “helpers”

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.

“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”

The meetings are held using Zoom conference calls from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this link: https://zoom.us/j/4848426773. Please share this invite with anyone in your network of Oregon helpers.
