STOP TRUMP’S LAWLESSNESS
ON OUR BORDERS
Trump’s lawless behavior at the border continues as he repeatedly seeks to stop brown and black immigrants and asylum-seekers. He has:
- Cruelly separated parents from children and detained them in violation of the Flores decision
- Required asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico while their status is adjudicated
- Stopped asylum for survivors of domestic and gang violence
- Required asylum-seekers to be incarcerated by denying them bail
- Sought to end DACA and Temporary Protected Status for long-time, law-abiding residents
- Declared a fake “emergency,” contrary to Congress’ explicit will, to divert funds to build his racist wall
Many of these efforts have been blocked by the courts.
Trump reportedly directed DHS officials to break the law and promised to pardon those convicted of a crime, a violation of his oath of office that would be yet another impeachable offense. Acting Defense Secretary Shanahan waived long-standing policies to appease Trump’s demand that the military be deployed on the border.
