Call to Action: August 8, 2017

LET MUELLER DO HIS JOB!

#KeepMueller
#NotAboveTheLaw

Special Counsel Mueller is leading an independent investigation into Russia’s election interference – including ties to the Trump campaign and obstruction of justice. Trump’s continued threats to fire Mueller would create a devastating constitutional crisis (http://theatln.tc/2utQfgQ).

Mueller recently convened a grand jury in Washington, D.C., which gives him broad authority to subpoena documents and compel witnesses to testify under oath (https://usat.ly/2vpX6wq). He must be allowed to do his job, free from threats and intimidation.

Trump’s threats to remove Mueller have generated widespread concern. To protect him, two bipartisan bills (S. 1741 (http://bit.ly/2vBkyqL) and S. 1735 (http://bit.ly/2fhksxL) have been introduced. While taking different approaches, both would require judicial review of any move to oust him (http://politi.co/2hrNdIL)

Senator Coons, who co-sponsored one, stressed “a broader bipartisan concern that the president may take inappropriate action [and called it] the first step to put a speed bump in place against his improvident firing” http://wapo.st/2u8AIaL Senator Graham, the other bill’s sponsor warned that firing Mueller “would precipitate a firestorm that would be unprecedented in proportions” http://cbsn.ws/2umUpqU

THEY’VE GOT THAT RIGHT! Firing Mueller would create a constitutional crisis.

He must be allowed to do his job – America’s democracy is at stake.

**ACTION 1: CALL YOUR SENATOR (if you can’t call during business hours, leave a voice mail! It all makes a difference!)**

SAMPLE SCRIPT
My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon, zip code [–]. I am very concerned about Trump’s threats to fire Mueller. Two bipartisan bills, S.1741 and S.1735, have been introduced in the Senate to keep that from happening. I am asking you to co-sponsor these bills and do everything you can to get them to the Senate floor. It is vital that Trump gets the message that he is not above the law.”

**ACTION 2: WHENEVER POSSIBLE, GO TO A TOWN HALL AND ASK OUR MoCS TO LET MUELLER DO HIS JOB**
Find a list of town halls here: http://bit.ly/IO_Events

SAMPLE SCRIPT:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am very concerned about Trump’s threats to fire Mueller. What are you doing to make sure Mueller won’t get fired? And what will you do if Mueller is fired?

If you can’t get to a town hall, please call Senator Merkley’sWyden’s, Senator Merkley’s and Congressman Walden’s office and ask them the same questions.

**ACTION 3: SHARE WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY**

Share this post with friends and family. And help them to call and tell their Senators to vote in favor of these bills.
