RELEASE TRUMP’S TAX RETURNS
——————————————————————————————
#TaxMarch

Every President since Carter has released their tax returns as a demonstration of openness, transparency and accountability. However, President Trump has repeatedly refused to release his tax returns. Given the global reach of Trump’s business dealings, it is critical to know whether foreign governments or businesses have LEVERAGE OVER HIM. The integrity of American democracy is at stake!

– Congress has the power to get Trump’s tax returns, but so far has failed to act. This is unacceptable.

– A few members of the Oregon congressional delegation have responded to this unprecedented breach of public trust by co-sponsoring the Presidential Tax Transparency Act, HR 305 (http://bit.ly/2pzWkGr) and S 26 (http://bit.ly/2oxbEpu). These bills would require President Trump and future major party presidential nominees to release the three most recent years of their tax returns. If they refuse, the Treasury would provide the returns to the Office of Government Ethics or Federal Election Commission.

**ACTION 1: CALL BOTH SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPTS:

SENATOR WYDEN
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I want to thank Senator Wyden for leading the way on this issue by sponsoring the Presidential Tax Transparency Act, S 26. I applaud his efforts for speaking at the Washington Tax March and I hope he will continue to get as much media coverage as possible. Oregonians will support his efforts by marching here.”

SENATOR MERKLEY
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I want to thank the Senator for co-sponsoring the Presidential Tax Transparency Act, S 26. On Saturday Americans around the country will be marching to demand Trump’s tax returns. I hope Senator Merkley will use this opportunity to amplify the message about Trump’s tax returns. Oregonians will support his efforts by marching here.”

**ACTION 2: CALL CONGRESSMAN WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPTS:

CONGRESSMAN GREG WALDEN
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I want transparency in government. All Presidents and presidential candidates should be required to release their tax returns for Americans to understand any potential influence from foreign governments or business interests. This is especially true for Trump because of his vast business holdings around the world. I would like to see Congressman Walden support the Presidential Tax Transparency Act, HR 305. On Saturday Oregonians and people from around the country will march to demand Trump’s tax returns and I hope Congressman Walden will use this opportunity to be vocal about this issue.”
