MAKE AMERICA AN ADMIRED LEADER AGAIN

While some of Trump’s actions can be reversed, friends and foes have lost confidence in America’s will to meet its commitments.

Cast-off commitments range from Cuba to trade agreements. Trump is abandoning America’s preeminent role in world affairs. Foreign affairs experts call Trump’s antics “incoherent” and “horrifying.”

This week, European leaders are trying to save the Iran nuclear deal from Trump. If that deal fails, it will inflame conflicts in the volatile region that could end in war.

Next is the North Korean summit on nuclear arms. Last year, Trump called the North Korean leader “little Rocket man” whose country he would “totally destroy.” Today, Kim Jong-un is “very honorable,” says our (not so) “Great Leader.”

Trump is approaching these perilous decisions handicapped by a decimated State Department, a National Security Council in flux (again), and no noticeable inclination to learn.

His only consistency has been his irrepressible “bromance” with Putin. Putin can attack our elections, avoid sanctions, and be complicit as Assad kills children. Trump turns the other cheek.

Congress must:
— contain Trump by rejecting Pompeo as Secretary of State and enforce Russian sanctions
— press Trump for clarity on goals and justifications for actions

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Trump Enabler Greg Walden: 
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. I’d like to express my outrage over Trump’s foreign policy. He is uninformed and has abdicated America’s preeminent role in world affairs. He hasn’t enforced Russian sanctions. He must be reigned in. Please tell Mr. Walden that it’s well past time to put country before party and do his job!  He MUST 1) demand coherent international goals and justifications for actions and 2) take steps to enforce Russian sanctions. The whole world is watching. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senators Merkley and Wyden: 
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to thank you for your opposition to the Pompeo nomination. I’d also like to express my strong disapproval of Trump’s foreign policy. He is uninformed and has abdicated America’s preeminent role in world affairs. He hasn’t enforced Russian sanctions. He must be reigned in. Please 1) demand coherent international goals and justifications for actions and 2) take steps to enforce Russian sanctions. Thank you.”

**ACTION 2: It’s Time To Get Out The Vote**

It has become clear that we need a different Congress to fix our foreign relations and regain our standing in the world. This includes replacing Greg Walden with someone who will represent We The People.

VOTE in the Primary for the progressive candidates of your choice. Ballots will be mailed TODAY! Be sure all of your progressive friends return their ballots by May 15—people who vote in the primary are EIGHT TIMES more likely to vote in the general election!
