PROTECT DREAMERS AND STOP THE TAX BILL

#DreamActNow
#StopTrumpTaxScam

The truth about the Republican tax bill, per the Washington Post: “the GOP lost focus on the middle class.” Per Rep Mark Sanford, the bill is “fundamentally a corporate tax reduction and restructuring bill”. Paul Ryan plans to use its $1.5 trillion deficit to justify cuts to Medicare and entitlements.

Passing Round 1 of this Tax Scam wasn’t the only disappointing recent vote. Congress passed a 2-week continuing budget resolution, to keep the government running – but it failed to address priorities, like providing a path to citizenship for Dreamers. During this 2-week period alone, 1,708 childhood arrivals risk deportation.

Dreamers play an important role in American society and the economy. Support for them is widespread across the country and Congress. Democrats vowed to pass a clean DREAM Act, but missed an opportunity to do so when they agreed to the 2-week extension.

Nancy Pelosi is sending conflicting messages about Democrats’ priorities, saying: “Democrats are not willing to shut government down” and “We will not leave here without a DACA fix.” Yet, if Dems are serious about protecting Dreamers, they must be willing to prioritize the DREAM Act.https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/08/us/politics/government-shutdown-immigration-daca.html?_r=0

Stop the Trump Tax Scam!

Pass a clean DREAM Act!

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senator Merkley:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. Thank you for voting “no” on last week’s continuing budget resolution. Today I am asking you to keep doing all you can to stop the Trump Tax Bill and to promise me that you will only vote “yes” on the next continuing resolution if it has a Clean DREAM Act. I will be calling again this week with my other priorities for the continuing resolution. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senator Wyden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I was surprised you voted “yes” on last continuing budget resolution when it didn’t include a Clean DREAM Act. Today I am asking you to keep doing all you can to stop the Trump Tax Bill and to promise me you will only vote “yes” on the next continuing resolution if contains a Clean DREAM Act. I will be calling again this week with my other priorities for the continuing resolution. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Congressman Walden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. The next few weeks will bring votes on the tax bill and a continuing resolution. Please put people ahead of party and think about your constituents, not your donors when you take these votes. Vote “no” on the tax bill and only vote “yes” on the next continuing resolution if it has a Clean DREAM Act. I will be calling again this week with my other priorities for the continuing resolution. And I will remember your actions, not your words, come November 2018. Thank you.”
