SAVE MEDICARE FROM THE TRUMP TAX SCAM
Last Friday Republicans released their final tax bill. The bill did not change: corporate taxes are still cut more than middle class taxes, and the almost $1.5 trillion debt created will trigger immediate cuts to Medicare and be used to justify later entitlement cutbacks.
The GOP is willing to increase the deficit and cut seniors’ healthcare to give themselves and their donors huge tax cuts. When this bill passes, Medicare will IMMEDIATELY be cut–$25 billion in 2018.
The lure of donor money and consulting jobs appears strong:
—Susan Collins breaking her promise to vote “no”unless Medicare is saved and certain healthcare legislation is passed
—Jeff Flake, although unhappy with bill-drafting process, still voting ”yes”
—Without reading the bill AND after addition of personally beneficial tax cut, Bob Corker changed his vote to “yes”
Before the final vote this week, we must:
–call friends/family in red states –especially constituents of Senators Collins (Maine) and Flake (Arizona) –and help them convince their Senators to vote “no”
Call our Senators and urge them to keep fighting!
**ACTION 1: CALL CONSTITUENTS IN SWING STATES**
Call everyone you know in red states–especially Maine and Arizona – and help them tell their Senators to vote “no” on the tax bill. Then use the Indivisible Guide easy calling tool: https://www.trumptaxscam.org/calls-to-kill-the-tax-scam/ to contact progressive constituents in critical swing states and urge them to call their Senators and instruct them to vote “NO” as well.
**ACTION 2: CALL OUR SENATORS**
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zipcode]. The GOP has no shame. It is still doing everything it can to pass the tax bill, even though it will trigger immediate cuts to Medicare and has kickbacks for certain Senators. I’m asking that the Senator do all he can to slow down and stop this vote. Please use all procedural tools available. Thank you.”
