WE NEED HUMANE IMMIGRATION POLICIES

America is a nation of immigrants. 

It is legal to seek asylum. 

Those seeking asylum should be given refuge. 

These statements are not partisan, yet Trump continues to vilify immigrants, deny requests for asylum, and separate families at the border.  Trump and his administration continue to lie saying Congressional action is needed to keep families together while using these families as leverage to build Trump’s wall.

Trump’s GOP has two immigration proposals in the House – touting one as banning separating families at the border.  This is another lie.  This “compromise” bill gets rid of extra legal protections that children not be detained longer than necessary, which will lead to kids and families being detained indefinitely.  Both bills also try to leverage relief for Dreamers by paying Trump’s ransom of gutting legal immigration and providing billions for his wall.

Trump could end this suffering, but he won’t; he has plans for further immigration crackdowns. Congress must stop letting children and families be used as hostages. Democrats have the Keep Families Together Act which will end these atrocities.

This is being done in our name.  It is up to us to stop it.

**ACTION FOUR: REMEMBER FOR THE MIDTERMS**

It has become clear that we need a different Congress to protect immigrants, families and children.

  • Please make sure you and everyone you know is registered to vote.
  • Make sure every candidate for Congress is answering questions about how they will work to act as a check on this administration.

The 2018 elections will be the most important of our lives. Lives depend on it.
