TRUMP TAX “PLAN” IS THEFT
————————————————————————————
#ReverseRobinHood

The centerpiece of President Trump’s opening salvo in the tax reform debate is a drastic cut in corporate tax rates from 35% to 15%. It also includes provisions to allow similar huge cuts for some in personal income taxes, and to ease or eliminate capital gains and estate taxes. Here is the bottom line for this STEAL-FROM-THE-POOR-AND-GIVE-TO-THE-TRUMP proposal (see also Indivisible Guide http://bit.ly/2oNcZud )

–We can’t know how much Trump will benefit from his proposals without his tax returns.

–Historically, “trickle down” doesn’t work. Tax cuts for the wealthy do NOT generate jobs and stimulate economic growth.

–Tax experts say these cuts “could end up exploding the deficit.http://politi.co/2qgbd16

A sampling of Oregon MOC’s on this issue: Senator Merkley: “What does America need more? $2 trillion to corporate America or to hire teachers?http://bit.ly/2oLik0a. Senator Wyden–a ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee: it is a “tale of two systems” (he also recently unleashed a twitter campaign to pressure Trump to release his returns http://usat.ly/2p9g0BG ) Rep Earl Blumenauer is also outspoken AND well positioned on the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Tax Policy.

We need ALL of our Oregon MOC’s to take leadership roles in this battle!

WHERE’S WALDEN!?!

**ACTION 1: SENATORS WYDEN AND MERKLEY**

If you have a story about how Trump’s tax plan would affect you, please share it! Or adapt our SAMPLE SCRIPT:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. Trump’s so-called tax plan is like Robin Hood in reverse: it steals from everyday Americans to give even more to the rich—including Trump himself. It would also explode the deficit. I want to thank the Senator for his vigorous opposition to President Trump’s fiscal policies. Any future tax reforms MUST be fair and fiscally responsible. Meanwhile I would like Senator [–] to step up the pressure on his colleagues from both sides of the aisle to obtain Trump’s tax returns. I would like him to say NO to any tax reform plan until those returns are released and reviewed by all—including the American people.”

**ACTION 2: CALL CONGRESSMAN WALDEN**

If you have a story about how Trump’s tax plan would affect you, please share it! Or adapt our SAMPLE SCRIPT:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. Trump’s so-called tax plan is like Robin Hood in reverse: it steals from everyday Americans to give even more to the rich —including Trump himself. It would also explode the deficit. Any future tax reforms MUST be fair and fiscally responsible. Congressman Walden must reject this tax plan and demand the release of Trump’s tax returns. It’s time for him to put country over party and say NO to any tax reform plan until those returns are released and reviewed by all—including the American people.”

NOTE: Please continue to resist enactment of the AHCA whenever contacting any of our MOCs!

There’s plenty of coverage this afternoon about Donald Trump’s new tax “plan,” but I’d caution against using that word.
