Trump is staging campaign rallies for Republicans promising protections for pre-existing conditions. Last week new rules were issued for waivers making it easier for states to offer non-ACA compliant junk health insurance plans designed to weaken the ACA, and to eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
A pending lawsuit seeks to invalidate ACA’s pre-existing condition protections and ultimately have the ACA declared unconstitutional. Sessions’ DOJ has declared that it will not defend the ACA.
The Farm Bill, which funds the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) remains unauthorized. Republicans have added requirements for SNAP assistance which would create food insecurity for millions who would lose eligibility.
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) provides protections and assistance that saves lives. Following Brett Kavanaugh’s elevation to the Supreme Court, it’s not surprising that the reauthorization of the VAWA is being threatened by Conservatives. They object to extending its protections to marginalized women and want to ensure that violent domestic partners retain their gun rights.
