The latest ACA/Obamacare repeal bill, the Graham-Cassidy-Heller Amendment, destroys Medicaid—laying waste to a 52-year-old program that provides care for children, disabled, elderly and working poor…just to give the wealthy a tax break and claim a legislative victory. http://bit.ly/2ycArS2
Medicaid expansion and market-place subsidies will be replaced with small temporary block grants which will decrease every year. These grants are not earmarked for Medicaid expansion patients, so they could be used for other purposes. These grants end in 2027—leaving those previously covered by the ACA with nothing. http://bit.ly/2fhYDuX
The government will no longer provide guaranteed funding for traditional Medicaid patients (children, elderly, disabled). Instead, states will receive limited set amounts that are less than present allocations. Increases in population or illness rates will force states to further cut coverage and/or enrollment. http://bit.ly/2fhYDuX
This is entitlement “reform” to end Medicaid, which breaks the federal government’s promise to take care of all Americans—not just the wealthy.
We must stop this bill by:
• calling Senators Wyden and Merkley, asking them to run to out the clock—since this bill can only pass with 50 votes through September 30th.
• calling constituents in swing states and helping them call their Senators.
Every call matters.
