PROTECT OUR JOBS AND HOMES: NO “FINANCIAL CHOICE” ACT

Millions of Americans lost their homes and/or their jobs in the 2008 financial crisis. To prevent big banks from exploiting consumers again, Congress passed the Dodd-Frank Act, a set of regulations for the financial services industry (http://cnb.cx/2pVBOS6).

Wednesday, the House is poised to vote to roll back these consumer protections with the Financial CHOICE Act of 2017 (HR 10)  https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/10 https://www.indivisibleguide.com/resource/financial-choice-act-hr-10/

We can’t let that happen!

–The Dodd-Frank Act requires banks to put consumers’ interests ahead of their own; prohibits the speculative investments that led to the housing market crash; and established the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which can fine institutions when they are unfair to consumers (as they did will Wells-Fargo http://nyti.ms/2poL53K).

The Financial CHOICE act would let the financial industry put their interests ahead of yours AND take away the CFPB’s ability to enforce consumer protections (http://bit.ly/2pUnrQ7).

–All of this puts millions more in the pockets of big banks while putting America at risk of another financial crisis.

Members of the Oregon Delegation know the importance of the Dodd-Frank Act (http://bit.ly/2qGJOsY, http://bit.ly/2qeAOvn).

Make sure all of our Congresspersons vote NO!

**ACTION: CALL CONGRESSMAN WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am opposed to the Financial CHOICE Act which would undermine important consumer protections around banking and lending. We can’t have another financial crisis like the one in 2008. I’m asking Congressman Walden to vote NO on the Financial CHOICE Act (HR 10). We need to protect our economy – not put it at risk of another meltdown.”

JUST AS IMPORTANT: CALL, TEXT, AND EMAIL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY IN RED DISTRICTS TO DO THE SAME. “SHARE” OR COPY / PASTE THIS ACTION!

CONGRESSMAN GREG WALDEN
DC (202) 225-6730, Medford: (541) 776-4646,
Bend (541) 389-4408, La Grande (541) 624-2400

If The Financial Choice Act passes, it would gut the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and repeal crucial oversight. It must be opposed.
