***Today’s Call To Action***

WE CAN VOTE SAFELY & SECURELY

Yesterday, we remembered those who died defending our representative democracy and our right to vote. Trump’s refusal to protect us from the pandemic continues to result in needless deaths and economic hardship, underscoring how important everyone’s vote truly is. Our right to vote must be safe and our vote itself secure.

Trump’s GOP knows their greed, corruption, and lack of compassion are unpopular. They know if we vote, they will lose. They aim voter suppression efforts toward communities of color and other Democratic strongholds, and their supporters manufacture and service voting machines even fourth graders can hack.

Voting by mail is far more secure. So, Trump and his loyalists spew lies about its legitimacy while dismantling the post office on which it relies. They know their only hope of retaining power is by suppressing our vote. Now, they insist we needlessly make the ultimate sacrifice and risk our lives to vote.

The House passed the Heroes’ Act, fully funding vote-by-mail and USPS. Trump’s GOP Senators say they feel no urgency to do anything but help themselves and their donors. This is unacceptable.

Demand Senate Action!

Secure Our Vote!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY and WYDEN:

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

We appreciate the Senator’s outspoken support for nationwide vote by mail that we enjoy here in Oregon. VBM requires a robust USPS. The Heroes’ Act includes provisions to ensure our medical and financial health during the pandemic, including money for VBM and the post office on which it depends.

We call on him to demand the Senate vote on the Heroes Act free of amendments that protect Trump’s GOP and its corporate donors, specifically liability protection for employers forcing employees back to work in unsafe situations.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

The Heroes’ Act includes provisions to ensure our medical and financial health during the pandemic, including money for vote-by-mail and the post office on which it depends. I demand that Greg Walden repudiate his outrageous NO VOTE on the Heroes Act, and that he publicly support a Senate vote on it free of amendments that risk your constituents’ lives by granting liability protection for employers who force them back to work in unsafe situations and that you oppose any such amendment returned to the House from the Senate.

Thank you.”
