***Today’s Call To Action***
Yes COVID Relief!
No Barrett Confirmation!
The third wave of COVID infections is beginning. Instead of addressing that reality, Trump and his Republican allies do nothing to slow the virus’ spread, nothing to help American’s put at increased risk by Trump’s reckless denial of pandemic science.
- COVID pushed 8 million Americans into poverty since May and 22 million working poor are close.
- 6 million missed their September rent or mortgage payment.
- 29.5% of households with kids suffer food insecurity, unprecedented in modern times.
- COVID job losses and early retirement account withdrawals mean half of Americans over 55 may retire poor.
- Harvard economists warn COVID “is the greatest threat to prosperity since 1929.”
Trump and his sycophant’s priorities are clear — maintain power at all costs, including American livelihoods and financial security. So, they focus on packing the Supreme Court with extreme conservatives. Nominee Amy Coney Barrett skated through Senate hearings last week with well-practiced evasions. Senator Dick Durban said in frustration: “What was the point of these hearings if we really don’t know what she thinks about any issue?”
Well, the point is Trump and the Republicans believe Barret will:
- Gut Obamacare.
- Oppose gay rights.
- Tacitly support voter suppression.
- Limit or ban abortions.
- And, BONUS, be the vote allowing Trump to remain president.
Barrett’s confirmation vote could come as early as this Friday. Nancy Pelosi has set a deadline for agreeing to a COVID relief bill for TOMORROW. Time is running out.
Call Congress!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**
SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY and WYDEN:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].
It’s an obscenity that Republicans are rushing to pack the Supreme Court as COVID is again exploding. People need help. Eight million people have been thrown into poverty since May and another 22 million are close. Childhood food insecurity is soaring. Meanwhile, the Senate GOP is spending its time packing the court! I ask the Senator to do whatever he can to:
- Demand COVID relief NOW
- Delay the SCOTUS vote until after the 2021 inauguration
Thank you.”

October 19, 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Ongoing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
#MyORHealth Support is available for Oregon’s “helpers”
Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.
“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”
The meetings are held using Zoom conference calls from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this link: https://zoom.us/j/4848426773. Please share this invite with anyone in your network of Oregon helpers.
