Creative Ways to Get your Message Across to Your Congressmen
Holding your Congressmen accountable is at the heart of the Indivisible movement, and the best way we know to do that is by contacting them; most preferably by phone, secondarily by postcard, and lastly by email.
For those of us who may find it a challenge to make our calls for one reason or another, we wanted to provide some alternate strategies for taking action.
1) Use the Buddy System!
Are you intimidated by the thought of calling your Congressman? Just like most intimidating things, it can feel less threatening to join forces with an ally. Ask your significant other, child/parent or roommate to make your call with you. You can make it a daily date together. Both of you should take turns giving your first and last name, as well as location, and should take a moment to make a comment. If you need to, do a quick rehearsal before you make your call.
2) Use Resistbot
Is it one of those days you aren’t getting through to any of the voice mail boxes you are trying? Resistbot will send a fax to your Congressmen for any issues you specify via text. Text resist to 50409 to get started. (Messaging and data rates may apply.)
3) Tweet
MoCs are active on Twitter and it can be a great place to publicly engage with them about issues you care about. Also consider tweeting elected officials at every level such as @OregonGovBrown
