PROTECT DREAMERS AND TPS HOLDERS
#ImmigrationReform
#DREAMActNow
#SaveTPS
This is a dangerous time to put immigration policy to a vote. The Trump Administration wants to sharply cut legal immigration and exclude groups based on religion and race. Congressional leadership has repeatedly broken promises on past legislative deals. DREAMers and Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders wait in agonizing limbo.
Bipartisan groups in both Houses are working on plans to give eventual legal status to 1.8 million Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and DACA eligible, plus over 300,000 TPS holders. But both plans would disrupt family reunification and build up Department of Homeland Security deportation capacities.
Even if the Senate bill passes, the House won’t necessarily consider immigration legislation without the President’s support, which is nonexistent. Meanwhile, Trump’s clock runs out on DREAMers in five weeks.
To overcome these impediments, we must fight for DREAMers and TPS holders by telling MoCs we want an immigration bill that:
1) provides permanent legal status to DREAMers and TPS holders
2) supports family reunification
3) keeps families already here intact
4) supports immigration advocates
We are fighting for America’s identity. Let Congress know in no uncertain terms that . . .
We Stand Indivisible with Immigrants!
Where’s Walden!?!
**ACTION 1: Call Congressman Walden and our Senators**
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)
SAMPLE SCRIPT for Congressman Walden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to insist that Congressman Walden support an immigration bill that 1) provides permanent legal status to DREAMers and TPS holders, 2) keeps families together, 3) allows people to immigrate regardless of race. Trump’s proposal shames this country and should be opposed by everyone, regardless of party. To do otherwise makes Congressman Walden complicit with Trump’s overt racism. Thank you.”
SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senators Merkley and Wyden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to ask [Name] to fight for an immigration bill that 1) provides permanent legal status to DREAMers and TPS holders, 2) keeps families together, 3) allows people to immigrate regardless of race. Thank you.”
