KILL THE HOUSE FARM BILL!

It took two tries, no floor debate, and no Democratic votes for the House to pass its cruel Farm Bill (H.R. 2) by two votes—WALDEN VOTED YES! This bill cuts the highly effective food stamp (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program [SNAP]) program, which delivers vital nutrition to needy families at a bargain price — $1.40 per person per meal.

If passed by the Senate, H.R. 2, coupled with the GOP Tax Scam, will widen America’s income inequality gap even more.

H.R. 2 is just another attempt by the GOP to pay for the $1.8 trillion deficit caused by the GOP Tax Scam (that primarily benefits the wealthiest Americans and corporations) by cutting social programs on which middle/lower-income citizens rely. H.R. 2 would reduce or eliminate SNAP benefits for more than 2 million people. New, unwieldy work requirements would make it more difficult for states to administer their programs and recipients to navigate them.

Most working-age adults receiving SNAP benefits are already subject to work requirements. H.R. 2’s cruel new requirements target working families, children, veterans and the disabled and would greatly increase hunger in America.

Tell the Senate to stop H.R. 2 now. The Senate’s Farm Bill must not include H.R. 2’s heartless SNAP provisions.

Save SNAP! Feed the Hungry!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR MERKLEY AND WYDEN

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because the Senate must stop H.R. 2, the House Farm Bill. H.R. 2 will undermine the highly effective food stamp SNAP program by imposing onerous new work requirements. Working families, children, veterans, and the disabled will go hungry. Republicans intend the SNAP cuts to shrink the $1.8 trillion deficit created by their Tax Scam. As the NYT said, “The GOP wants Hungry Kids to Fund Tax Cuts.” Please tell Senator [*] to oppose the House Farm Bill. No one should go hungry in America. Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: REMEMBER THIS FOR THE MIDTERMS**

We have choices to make this fall. The Republicans’ policies call for cutting essential social welfare programs, like food stamps, Medicare, and Medicaid, to pay for the deficit created by the GOP Tax Scam. Do you favor this policy? If the answer is no, then join us in supporting candidates who won’t pay for tax cuts for the rich by cutting programs that benefit middle and lower-income families.

The 2018 elections will be the most important of our lives.

**ACTION THREE: JOIN A “KEEP FAMILIES TOGETHER” MARCH ON SATURDAY, JUNE 30**

There are more than 600 marches planned and more than 400,000 people have responded that they will participate nationwide.

Join us as we send a clear message to Donald Trump and all Members of Congress:

Families Belong Together!

These protests demand an end to the cruel separation of immigrant families and the reunification of those who have already been separated. We call on Greg Walden to support measures that swiftly and completely end these inhumane practices.
