Mitch McConnell is undermining the democratic process, and the Alabama election results, by refusing to seat Doug Jones in the Senate. He is disenfranchising Alabama voters to pass a tax plan that cuts corporate taxes more than middle class taxes, and creates a $1.5 trillion deficit that will be used to justify cutting entitlements, including Medicare.
Instead of rushing to a vote, the Senate must wait for Doug Jones. The will of the people must be respected. As Jason Kander points out, election winners can be seated immediately. He should know – as former Missouri Secretary of State, (Democrat) Kander swore in Republican Jason Smith to the House of Representatives within 18 hours of the polls closing.
