DAYS UNTIL MID-TERM BALLOTS ARE DUE: 99

REUNITE FAMILIES

HOLD THE ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNTABLE

The crisis caused entirely by Trump’s evil child-separation policy continues. Despite the court’s order mandating reunification by July 26, 711 children, including 46 under the age of 5, were still in custody, apart from their families.

The Administration labels the families they broke up as “deleted family units” and didn’t plan to reunite them until ordered by the court to do so. “This is child kidnapping, pure and simple,” declared former Congresswoman Elizabeth Holzman, resigning from the DHS Advisory Council. The failure to create proper records shows “utter depravity,” she concluded.

The parents of over 400 children were deported and can’t be located.  “There’s a very good chance they’re going to be permanently separated,” said ICE’s former acting director. Other children are held in detention centers where sexual assault and other abuse is common because their parents mistakenly signed documents giving them up. “The government should … offer detailed rationales for why they deemed [a] parent inappropriate…,” said Wendy Young, president of a children’s nonprofit organization. “I do not trust this government to make that decision correctly.”

The crisis is not over!

Congress must join the courts to address this humanitarian disaster and to

hold those responsible accountable.

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because the Trump regime has failed to reunify all of the immigrant families it cruelly separated. Their determination about who is and is not “eligible” lacks all credibility and Congress must act. Please tell the Senator to call for immediate hearings into this inhumane situation and to insist on the appointment of a “reunification czar” with the power to take the steps necessary to reunify children with their families. Thank you.”
