CALL TO ACTION: Wednesday Feb 15, 2017

On Thursday, the Senate will vote whether to confirm Andrew Puzder as Secretary of Labor. Puzder’s confirmation is almost as tenuous as Betsy DeVos’ after charges surfaced that Puzder hired an undocumented household worker and abused his ex-wife.

Four Republican senators have yet to say they’ll support him. We need our Senators to use this hearing to call attention to Mr. Puzder’s egregious record on labor issues. As a corporate attorney and former CEO of CKE Restaurants (think Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s) Puzder has spoken against workers’ rights to a living minimum wage, sick leave, overtime pay and legal protections that affect worker safety and discrimination.

Oregon senators have been prominent critics; Sen. Wyden insisted that workers who suffered under Puzder be allowed to testify in an earlier committee hearing, and Sen. Merkley summed it up this way: “This is a portrait of grinding workers into the ground and extracting every last dollar.” Let’s have them make it clear just how low the GOP will have to go to confirm this #SwampCabinet nominee.
