CALL TO ACTION Wednesday, Feb 8, 2017

Yesterday, in a move that was fast-tracked through the House Administration Committee with little publicity, Republicans voted to eliminate the only federal agency that protects America from voting machine hacking.

H.R. 634 would eliminate the Election Assistance Commission created by Congress after the 2000 Florida recount to upgrade voting technology in order to ensure that all votes are counted and to reduce the chances of fraud.

This vote is especially ironic given Donald Trump’s insistence on widespread voter fraud targeted at him in the presidential election.

The bill is likely to be voted on by the whole House in the near future.

**ACTION 1: CALL YOUR CONGRESSPERSON**

Sample Script:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am calling to urge the Congressperson to vote against HR 634, The Election Assistance Commission Elimination Act. It passed in committee Feb 7, and it will eliminate the only federal agency responsible for ensuring that voting equipment is functional and secure. Given recent reports of Russian hacking into US systems, it is especially important that our voting procedures are undergoing a continual upgrade to prevent abuse. Can I count on the Congressperson protect our free and fair elections, by voting NO on HR 634?”
