The “No U.S. War on Venezuela” action is designed to call attention to the Trump administration’s threats of military intervention in a possible coup against the democratically elected regime of President Nicholas Maduro.
The Rogue Valley chapter of Veterans For Peace is sponsoring a rally Saturday to oppose any U.S. military intervention in Venezuela.
The rally, being repeated by other VFP chapters all across the country, is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Vogel Plaza in downtown Medford. The Ashland Peace House and ORD2 Indivisible are co-sponsors.
Trump administration adviser John Bolton has said the U.S. might be called upon to send troops to Venezuela, and Trump has said “nothing is off the table” where such action is concerned.
The U.S. appears to be backing Juan Guaidó, head of Venezuela’s General Assembly, against President Nicolas Maduro. It’s shaping up to be a U.S.-backed coup against a duly-elected president. Veterans For Peace fears U.S. intervention could be the start of another Vietnam-style war in South America.
