SUMMARY:Letters to Voters Garden and Zoom Parties - Medford and Your Home
DESCRIPTION:Our own ORD2 Indivisible Letter Writing Team has written an impressive number of letters to voters with Vote Forward! Last count was over 15\,500\, wow! Thank you\, thank you\, thank you\, to our many letter writers from near and far who joined us in the Garden or on Zoom to write thousands of letters. What you have done – what you are doing – is getting us closer to what we all want and need – the ouster of the current administration in Washington DC and the welcome of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris! \nOur final Garden Party takes place on Tuesday\, October 13 from 10 to noon! Bring all your letters that day. We’ll have some extra stamps on hand\, but please let us know ahead if you need large quantities. \nWe’ll spend the first hour making sure that our letters are stamped\, sealed\, and placed in postal trays. \nDuring the second hour\, we’ll be treated to a special mini Zoom concert with Roy Zimmerman. Roy writes hilarious political songs with his wife\, Melanie\, and before COVID-19\, they toured the country constantly\, bringing laughter and encouragement to the “Blue Dots” – the most progressive people in some of the least progressive places in the nation. “I get accused of preaching to the converted\,” says Roy\, “but that’s not how I think about it. I think of it as entertaining the troops.” \nPlease invite all your friends to join us on Zoom (even if they have been texting\, or something else\, instead of writing letters) – the more the merrier and we have room for 100 on Zoom! Have a preview of what to expect here: https://youtu.be/ilk1RX-tElI \nFollowing the concert\, we’ll take turns reading from “Trumpty Dumpty wanted a Crown\,” verses for a despotic age by John Lithgow. And of course\, there will be a group photo session at the end! \nRSVP to Dasja to reserve your space in the Garden: dasja@dasjadolan.com. RSVP to Hilary to get the Zoom link: hilary.avalon@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Letters to Voters Zoom & Garden Parties
DESCRIPTION:Our ORD2 Indivisible writing team joined the Letter Writing with Swing Left: https://swingleft.org/ \nBy focusing on twelve “Super States”\, we can work on flipping the White House\, the Senate\, and the state houses key to rolling back Republican gerrymandering—all at the same time. \nWe will be writing turnout letters for the general election and “banking” these letters to send in late October—right when voters are ready to mark ballots!  You can write a few letters each day\, save them in a box until you meet your letter writing goal.  The goal of the campaign is to encourage swing voters to show up and vote in November.  Swing Left has already proven that sending letters to swing voters in key districts made a huge difference in the 2018 elections. \nWe know this strategy works\, but we need you to make it happen in the 2020 general election. \n \nTo sign up for the Zoom party\, please contact Hilary Avalon.\n\n\n\n\nTo make a reservation for the Garden Party\, please contact Dasja Dolan.

SUMMARY:ORD2 Indivisible Virtual General Meeting - Let's Talk About CAHOOTS
DESCRIPTION:Please join ORD2 Indivisible’s monthly General Meeting on Monday\, Aug. 10\, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.\, on Zoom.  \nThis month’s meeting will be a panel discussion called “Let’s Talk About CAHOOTS.” CAHOOTS (Crisis Assistance Helping Out on the Streets) is a community-based public safety system that started at the White Bird Clinic in Eugene 31 years ago to provide mental health first response for crises involving mental illness\, homelessness and addiction. The panel will consist of Tim Black\, Operations Coordinator with CAHOOTS; Meesha Blair\, Advocacy Committee Chair with NAMI Southern Oregon; Shelby Henry\, Resource Advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault; and Sarah Westover\, Phoenix City Council member who is also active in the Real Solutions Coalition. It will be moderated by Terrie Martin\, ORD2 Indivisible Steering Committee member. \nPlease join our meeting to find out how a CAHOOTS model might work in Jackson County. SUMMARY:Non-ORD2 Indivisible Sponsored Event: Federal Police Out of Portland NOW! Rally & March - Ashland
DESCRIPTION:Veterans for Peace\, Rogue Valley Chapter 156: \nPOTUS has sent heavily armed paramilitary troops into Portland supposedly to stop “anarchists” and “Antifa” protesters from desecrating the Federal Courthouse in Portland\, but really to show his base how tough he is. In solidarity with the peaceful protesters in Portland\, bring your signs\, your facemask\, and your spirit to this rally and march. John Marciano is the chief organizer of this rally. \nAs federal troops terrorize protestors in Portland\, the citizens of Southern Oregon stand firmly in solidarity with the protestors and\, in this particular case\, our state leadership. We strongly condemn the federal troop presence and violent tactics. \nWe are demanding an end to racism\, poverty\, and militarism!\nWearing masks and social distancing is\, of course\, expected. We want everyone at the rally to feel safe. \n

POW! Wants to empower our candidates and our community with the knowledge that can remove barriers in our own minds. Please join us next Sunday..let’s learn about it to defeat it! \nPOW! acknowledges the profound effects bias has on race\, religion\, sexuality\, class\, disability and more. SUMMARY:U.S. Senator Ron Wyden Virtual Town Hall - Deschutes\, Crook & Jefferson Counties
DESCRIPTION:U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden announced he will have a live on-line town hall on June 29 hosted by Town Hall Project. Live video participation in this town hall is limited to residents of Deschutes\, Crook\, and Jefferson counties in Oregon. Time permitting we will take FB questions from Oregonians from all counties. \nIf you reside in these counties\, sign up here to ask a question: https://forms.gle/1guryiavzzoSqbK39 \nA two-time winner of Town Hall Project’s MVP Award\, Wyden has held 970 in-person town halls statewide in fulfillment of his pledge to hold at least one town hall each year in each of Oregon’s 36 counties. \nWyden has postponed in-person town halls until there are clear-cut public health guidelines that a large open-to-all public meeting poses no unusual health risk for Oregonians. On April 17\, he held a statewide virtual town hall hosted by Town Hall Project. The virtual June 29 town hall hosted by Town Hall Project is the last in a series of six regional town halls Wyden is planning for Oregonians throughout the state until in-person town halls can safely resume. \n“Hearing directly from Oregonians is always a top priority and that conversation must continue so Oregonians in every part of our state can ask me questions\, voice their views and share their priorities about all the challenges facing our state and country\,” Wyden said. “The coronavirus public health crisis puts those in-person town halls on a temporary hold\, but this virtual town hall with residents channels the best of our state’s ‘Oregon Way’ to figure out solutions that allow these civil conversations to continue.” \n“While the virtual format this time with me joining from Washington DC differs\, I expect the conversation will be just as robust\,” Wyden said. “And I very much look forward to hearing from Umatilla\, Union\, Wallowa and Morrow counties.” \n“Town Hall Project was founded on the conviction that in-person town halls are essential to our democracy\,” said Nathan Williams\, Executive Director of Town Hall Project. “But during this global pandemic\, we strongly encourage all lawmakers to prioritize the health of their constituents and to suspend indoor in-person gatherings\, \n“It’s more important than ever that elected leaders stay connected to their constituents\, so we urge lawmakers to hold virtual town halls that are open dialogues with the people they represent\,” Williams said. “Town Hall Project is proud to be hosting another open\, substantive virtual forum between Senator Wyden and his fellow Oregonians.”

SUMMARY:U.S. Senator Ron Wyden Virtual Town Hall - Umatilla\, Union\, Wallowa and Morrow Counties
DESCRIPTION:U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden announced he will have a live on-line town hall on June 25 hosted by Town Hall Project for residents of Umatilla\, Union\, Wallowa and Morrow counties. \nAnybody wanting to watch that virtual regional town hall beginning at 2 pm PT on Thursday\, June 25 can go to this Facebook link. Video at that link is available as well to people who don’t have a Facebook account. Residents of Umatilla\, Union\, Wallowa and Morrow counties who would like to participate by asking Wyden a question can fill out this form for consideration by Town Hall Project. \nA two-time winner of Town Hall Project’s MVP Award\, Wyden has held 970 in-person town halls statewide in fulfillment of his pledge to hold at least one town hall each year in each of Oregon’s 36 counties. \nWyden has postponed in-person town halls until there are clear-cut public health guidelines that a large open-to-all public meeting poses no unusual health risk for Oregonians. On April 17\, he held a statewide virtual town hall hosted by Town Hall Project. The virtual June 25 town hall hosted by Town Hall Project is the fifth in a series of six regional town halls Wyden is planning for Oregonians throughout the state until in-person town halls can safely resume.

SUMMARY:Indivisible National: Workshop on Relational Organizing Amidst Racial Violence
DESCRIPTION:The first week of the month we usually host our monthly National Activist Call\, but this week we want to address all allies in how they can actively show up for Black lives at this crucial moment. We’re hosting a workshop this Thursday\, June 4th at 8 PM ET to create a space for Indivisibles and allies everywhere to discuss relational organizing and the responsibility we have to escalate white folks and non-Black people of color from allies to accomplices\, both in casual conversations and in concrete anti-racist actions within our communities. \nThe murder of George Floyd\, an unarmed Black man in Minneapolis\, and Breonna Taylor\, tragically lost to a no-knock police raid in Louisville\, and several other Black lives taken by police violence is not a new occurrence in this country. For too long\, Black Americans have been alone in advocating for themselves — even if it disproportionately exposes them to mental\, physical\, and emotional harm. This should not be a fight taken up only by the most profoundly affected. \nThis moment calls for an increased initiative on the behalf of allies everywhere to step up and educate themselves on how to be part of the solution. Here’s how to join on Thursday — \n  \n\n\n\nWhat: Workshop on Relational Organizing Amidst Racial Violence \nWho: Indivisible’s Training and Organizing Team \nWhen: Thursday\, June 4 at 8 PM EST\, 5 PM PDT \nWhere: Click Here to RSVP for the Event\n\n\n\n  \nYou can also join us live at 8 PM EST\, 5 PM PDT on June 4th at indivisible.org/livetraining or find us live on Twitter and Facebook. But make sure to RSVP to get a reminder right before we go live. \nWe hope to see you there. \nIn solidarity\,\nIndivisible Team

SUMMARY:Non-ORD2 Indivisible Sponsored Event: Fire and Climate Summit Webinar Series: Reducing Fire Hazards in the Wildland Urban Interface
DESCRIPTION:The rate of development in forested and fire-prone landscapes has left communities vulnerable. Here we focus on defensible space and available resources to help landowners minimize fire threats in the Wildland Urban (or Rural) Interface. \nPanelists: Janet Alexander\, Co-Founder Firesmart Merlin; Rich Fairbanks\, Fairbanks Forest Management; David Ferguson\, District Conservationist\, National Resource Conservation Service. \nThursday\, May 28\, 2020\, 7:00 PM 8:00 PM \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nPanelists\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nDavid Ferguson\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nJanet Lancaster\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRichard Fairbanks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRead more about this topic: \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nReducing Fire Hazards in the Wildland Urban Interface\n\nWildfires respond to weather\, topography and fuels. We cannot control the weather\, the topography is pretty static\, what we can manage is the fuels. In the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) of Southern Oregon\, that usually means residents will need to manage mixed conifer second growth. What follows is advice for property owners that live in those mixed conifer forests.

DESCRIPTION:Join KS Wild for weekly webinars happening throughout the month of May focused on learning about the intersection of climate change\, wildfires\, forests\, and human communities in southern Oregon. \nThe landscapes we cherish today may look significantly different in the decades to come. Panelists will speak to the need for climate adaptation strategies to drive conservation and land management decision making in this time of rapid environmental change. \nPanelists: Alan Journet\, PhD\, Co-facilitator SOCAN; Bill Kuhn\, PhD\, Southwest Oregon Area Ecologist RRSNF; Jessica Halofsky\, PhD\, Research Ecologist\, Pacific Northwest Research Station Director \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n  \n \n  \nAlan Journet taught Biology and Environmental Science for thirty years at Southeast Missouri State University\, was active in the local Sierra Club group\, and formed the Southeast Missouri Climate Protection Initiative. After relocating to Southern Oregon with wife Kathy Conway Alan built an energy efficient passive/active solar home in the Applegate Valley. Finding no grassroots climate activist organization in the region\, Alan and Kathy established Southern Oregon Climate Action Now\, of which he serves as Co-facilitator and Board President. \n  \n \nBill Kuhn has been the Area Ecologist for the US Forest Service Southwest Oregon area since 2017\, and leads a small team of ecologists that support the Rogue River-Siskiyou and Umpqua National Forests. As an applied ecologist\, Bill utilizes published research\, models\, datasets\, and inventory and monitoring data to inform forest specialists and managers about recommended management direction. His work focuses on forest restoration needs\, objectives\, and implementation\, as well as vegetation\, fire effects\, and climate impacts monitoring. His management interests and expertise lie in the fields of vegetation and forest ecology\, fire ecology\, climate change adaptation\, and restoration ecology. \n  \n \n  \nJessica Halofsky’s research is focused on assessing potential effects of climate change on forest vegetation and disturbance regimes\, using both modeling and field-based approaches. Jessica also facilitates development of climate change vulnerability assessments and adaptation plans for national forests and other partners across the western United States. \n
