SUMMARY:Non-ORD2 Indivisible Sponsored Event: KS Wild - Climate Smart Conservation
DESCRIPTION:Join KS Wild for weekly webinars happening throughout the month of May focused on learning about the intersection of climate change\, wildfires\, forests\, and human communities in southern Oregon. \nThe landscapes we cherish today may look significantly different in the decades to come. Panelists will speak to the need for climate adaptation strategies to drive conservation and land management decision making in this time of rapid environmental change. \nPanelists: Alan Journet\, PhD\, Co-facilitator SOCAN; Bill Kuhn\, PhD\, Southwest Oregon Area Ecologist RRSNF; Jessica Halofsky\, PhD\, Research Ecologist\, Pacific Northwest Research Station Director \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\n  \n \n  \nAlan Journet taught Biology and Environmental Science for thirty years at Southeast Missouri State University\, was active in the local Sierra Club group\, and formed the Southeast Missouri Climate Protection Initiative. After relocating to Southern Oregon with wife Kathy Conway Alan built an energy efficient passive/active solar home in the Applegate Valley. Finding no grassroots climate activist organization in the region\, Alan and Kathy established Southern Oregon Climate Action Now\, of which he serves as Co-facilitator and Board President. \n  \n \nBill Kuhn has been the Area Ecologist for the US Forest Service Southwest Oregon area since 2017\, and leads a small team of ecologists that support the Rogue River-Siskiyou and Umpqua National Forests. As an applied ecologist\, Bill utilizes published research\, models\, datasets\, and inventory and monitoring data to inform forest specialists and managers about recommended management direction. His work focuses on forest restoration needs\, objectives\, and implementation\, as well as vegetation\, fire effects\, and climate impacts monitoring. His management interests and expertise lie in the fields of vegetation and forest ecology\, fire ecology\, climate change adaptation\, and restoration ecology. \n  \n \n  \nJessica Halofsky’s research is focused on assessing potential effects of climate change on forest vegetation and disturbance regimes\, using both modeling and field-based approaches. Jessica also facilitates development of climate change vulnerability assessments and adaptation plans for national forests and other partners across the western United States. \n

SUMMARY:Non-ORD2 Indivisible Sponsored Event: Care Not Cuffs: Exploring Solutions to Addiction\, Mental Illness\, and Homelessness - Virtual
DESCRIPTION:Health care experts and activists will discuss how our county is dealing with the issues of addiction\, mental health and houselessness from a public health perspective. What programs are working and could be expanded? What programs are finding success in neighboring counties? With a bond measure for funding a larger jail on the ballot in May\, we felt it important for voters to increase their familiarity with programs that can help reduce incarceration and enhance treatment/assistance for vulnerable residents in our community. \nWe’ll explore these topics from 6:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday\, April 14. The forum will be presented live via Zoom and recorded for later viewing. \nEmail your questions: (in advance or during the presentation) to Sarah Spansail at vicechair@jcdemocrats.org. \nZoom link:\nhttps://zoom.us/j/436584529?pwd=MldUamkrMmQ4VnFhaGFQN2pOT3VjUT09\nPassword: 775432 \nOr Connect by Telephone:\n(669) 900 6833 or (253) 215 8782\nWebinar ID: 436 584 529\nPassword: 775432 \nFor more information:\nWebsite: https://www.jcdemocrats.org/calendar\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/JCDHealthCareCaucus/ \nPanelists: \nTim Black is the Operations Coordinator for CAHOOTS (Crisis Assistance Helping Out on the Streets)\, a nationally-recognized program operated by the White Bird Clinic in Eugene. CAHOOTS provides mobile crisis intervention 24/7 in the Eugene-Springfield Metro area and has been estimated to save the community $7 million annually by diverting patients from emergency rooms\, plus another $8.5 million by going on calls that would otherwise be handled by police. \nMeesha Blair is the Advocacy Chair for the Southern Oregon chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI SO) and has been active since her son’s mental illness presented five years ago\, leading to his arrest and incarceration. Meesha believes that community is strengthened through education\, collaboration and mutual respect. \nKerri Hecox is a family physician and co-founder/executive director of the Oasis Center of the Rogue Valley\, supporting parents in recovery from substance abuse and their dependent children. \nMatt Vorderstrasse is the Development Director for Rogue Retreat\, a non-profit helping people transition out of homelessness by providing housing and relationship-based case management. Rogue Retreat operates Hope Village\, the tiny-house transitional housing community in Medford\, and also operates\, in partnership with ACCESS and the Jackson County Continuum of Care\, the 54-bed Kelly Shelter in Medford\, which became a year-round shelter last November. \nLanita Witt is a retired physician with more than 45 years of experience in medicine and 30 years treating patients in Jackson County. Since retirement\, she has been a student of public health issues\, including attending the Local Alcohol and Drug Policy Committee of Jackson County as well as gaining an understanding of the Jefferson Regional Health Alliance work with the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and the ongoing Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). SUMMARY:Non-ORD2 Indivisible Sponsored Event: Oregon Climate Emergency Day of Action - Salem
DESCRIPTION:Join the SOCAN contingent for a noon rally on the Capitol Steps in Salem in support of meaningful greenhouse gas emissions reduction legislation in Oregon. \nWe will car-pool from the Fred Meyer parking lot (1301 Center Street in Medford – near the pumps)\, meeting on February 11 at 7:45 a.m. leaving at 8:00 a.m. \nOpponents of action consistently claim that climate programs represent a Portland campaign against rural Oregon. Since we are rural Oregon\, it is critically important that southern Oregon is well represented. Please wear an orange SOCAN or grey SOCAN Master Climate Protector T-shirt\, or an ORD2 Indivisible T-shirt to demonstrate your Southern Oregon origins (oranges). \nSOCAN will purchase carbon credits for those joining the car-pool\, and will reimburse gasoline costs for drivers wishing to take advantage of the offer. If you are interested in joining the car-pool\, as driver or passenger\, please let Alan know at alan@socan.eco so you can get further information as the date approaches. \nFor more and updated information\, visit the SOCAN calendar.

SUMMARY:Rogue Indivisible Group Meeting (NOTE: TIME CHANGE\, NOW 5:30 PM) - Grants Pass
DESCRIPTION:Rogue Indivisible Group Meeting\nNovember 17\, 2019\n5:30 – 6:30 pm\nSt. Luke’s Episcopal Church\n224 NW D St\, Grants Pass\, Oregon 97526 \nThere were hundreds of concerned citizens who showed up to the first Rogue Indivisible meeting that was organized after the election in 2016. After that meeting\, we had lots of people sign up as volunteers and we were able to collect enough money to organize various events like the Women’s March\, Candidate Meet and Greets\, and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) outreach. \nWhether it is because you are just burned out (which is what “they” are hoping for)\, or because you would like to see something different from our group\, those numbers have dropped drastically. \nWe need members from our community to show up and be more than armchair warriors as we gear up and prepare for the very active year ahead. None of us thought Trump would win in 2016\, and it is certainly possible he could win again if we are complacent. \nMany of the events we did in the past\, take both volunteers AND money. How will you participate in getting out the vote and promoting candidates who can flip the current administration in Washington? Clicking on the like button is not going to make that happen. \nPLEASE join us at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Sunday\, November 17\, 2019\, from 5:00-6:30 pm as we put our heads together to improve Rogue Indivisible\, and continue to work together to coordinate our efforts in changing the trajectory of our community\, our state and our country. \n \nHope to see you at the meeting!
