DESCRIPTION:JOIN US ON MONDAY\, FEBRUARY 19 AT 4:00 AT THE ASHLAND CITY PLAZA!\nOUR MESSAGE:\nEnough is Enough: It’s time for Common Sense Gun Laws\nWhen it comes to laws that make gun ownership safer\, our congressman\, Greg Walden\, has a bad track record. He has voted to allow people with mental illness to buy guns\, to loosen restrictions on interstate gun purchases\, ban gun registration and trigger locks in Washington\, D.C.\, and he voted against expanding background checks from 24 hours to 72. \nIn fact\, the NRA has given Walden a 93 percent rating and $40\,000 to get re-elected. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence has given him a rating of 0 percent. \nBut after the latest high school mass shooting in Florida\, there is new momentum to make change. And Walden has a few vulnerabilities: \n\nHe recently appeared with an extreme right-wing pundit for the NRA at a Portland conference. Dana Loesch has implied that guns should be used against the resistance. That should be embarrassing to him.\nHe co-signed a letter asking the Bureau of Alcohol\, Tobacco\, Firearms and Explosives to re-visit the legality of “bump stocks’ which can turn a gun into a machine gun. That means he may be open to some gun restrictions.\nAnd his committee is the keeper of the “Dickey Amendment\,” which forbids using federal funds to research gun violence. That means if we want gun-related deaths to be considered a health hazard worth studying\, we have to go through him.\n\nIn the coming weeks\, expect a lot of discussion and action concerning our nation’s gun laws. And – if you call or write or happen to see Walden in person – remind him that we refuse to lose another child to some angry man who shouldn’t have a gun. \nWe see that he has sold us out to the gun lobby and we’ve had it.\nEnough is enough.\nBring your families\, your friends\, your signs\, flags\, pictures\, artwork and poetry.
