Republicans are moving at warp speed — in Congressional terms — to enact a new tax code:
• The House will introduces a tax bill on November 1 and begins markup by Nov. 6
• Senate Republicans plan a full Senate vote by Thanksgiving

The plan can work, since the Senate needs only 51 votes to succeed. Republicans think we aren’t paying attention. They aren’t counting on opposition from the American people. We must stand in the way—just as we did to protect the ACA.
We must make noise because, along with greedy giveaways to the rich, the tax plan will exacerbate the wealth gap and add $1.5 trillion to the deficit. To get authorization for the 51-vote process, the budget bill had to permit deep spending cuts, including:
• $1.3 trillion health care cuts
• deeper cuts to Medicaid than any of the repeal bills
• $473 billion Medicare cuts
• $673 billion in cuts to income-stabilizing programs like food stamps, SSI, earned-income tax credits, and unemployment insurance.
